Attention to detail can totally transform the aesthetic of the exterior of your home and equip your home to fair more gracefully in our challenging coastal conditions. The owners of this unique home less than a block from the ocean are looking to permanently relocate to Oak Island in retirement. Unfortunately, time plus several years of back to back hurricanes had taken their toll on the exterior. We partnered with our customers to upgrade the exterior with Improvements and Repairs to protect the home and reduce maintenance in the coming years.
The cedar siding and trim were visibly deteriorating in many areas, hinting at further rot below the surface. The railings and stringers were no longer safe in some areas and had fallen behind current building codes. The roof had seen better days and was due to be replaced.
The home was updated with Hardie siding and soffit, PVC trim around the windows and doors and new pressure treated pine railings.
Before exterior remodel
After exterior remodel
This family’s charming wrap-around porch was in need of a custom remodel. We started off by taking down the original blue railings, and installing the natural wood railing fabricated from pressure treated pine. This update gives the house a fresh new first impression and provides Outdoor Living space.
Next, our customer chose to brighten the working shutters with new hardware and a vibrant royal blue refinish. This pop of color gives the home a distinct appearance. We were able to keep most of the original shutters after some TLC including repairing some rotted sections, sanding and sealing, saving our client the cost of 18 new sets of shutters.
By adding the white crown trim, the windows and roof now have a lovely aesthetic contrast. Even small details like this can add so much to the exterior look!
Our customer selected a new light gray color paint for the new Hardie siding, which allows the bright white, vibrant blue, and natural wood colors to tie together into a crisp, cohesive color scheme. The owners plan to add deck skirting, stain the railings and decking and complete chimney repairs at a later date.
Finally, the outdoor shower was replaced as a feature for exterior functionality. With sleek black hardware and the stainless steel gooseneck nozzle, the homeowners can enjoy a quick rinse after a walk on the beach. We added the gray siding and white trim to match the overall design and ensure complete privacy.
This lovely home received our full attention from start to finish. Every step received careful planning as we went through the process of replacing, updating and painting most of the exterior design. The overall effect is a completely brightened outdoor living space, ready to enjoy all summer long!
